"BROTHERS IN ARMS" EXHIBITION AT CARNTON PLANTATION
Educates and Inspires Visitors in Understanding the Makings of a Solider
Franklin, Tennessee - April 26, 2010 - The "Brothers In Arms" exhibit featuring typical Civil War gear and personal items of the common soldier will open May 7 through December 31, 2010 in the new Fleming Center, located at Carnton Plantation.
The unprecedented exhibition explores the makings of the common soldier, a simple man, who was placed in an uncommon experience. The exhibition includes typical soldiers' gear such as rifles, sabers, uniform jackets, canteens, caps, and personal items. Each of the soldier's items come alive, depicting what the common solider looked like, what he wore, who fought beside him, and what he would have endured during battle.
Battle of Franklin Trust President and Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Esler said, '"Brothers In Arms' is an artistic, educational symbol that recognizes the every day makings of the common soldiers of the Civil War. The objects showcased exude a sense of gravity and illustrate what ordinary soldiers bore during the Civil War. We are grateful to have the exhibit feature and highlight these personal items, some of which have never been seen by the public."
More than 2.75 million men fought in the Civil War and guests will leave with the knowledge about what one man, on either side, tolerated.
The exhibition is included with the purchase of admission to Carnton Plantation which is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors over 65, children ages 6-12 are $6, and children under 6 are free.
"The Battle of Franklin Trust is a 501 (c) (3) management corporation acting on behalf of Franklin's battlefield sites to contribute to a greater understanding and enrich the visitor experience of the November 30, 1864 battle. It's organized for the charitable and educational purposes of preserving, restoring, maintaining and interpreting the properties, artifacts and documents related to the battle so as to preserve an important part of the nation's history.
